Academic Coaching

Academic Coaching is a personalized approach where the student and I work together to achieve academic and personal success. Through individual assessment, goal setting, life skill development, and regular, ongoing support, a student will develop effective solutions to areas of challenge such as preparing for a big test, learning study skills for a demanding class, developing skills to manage school/life balance.

+ What will coaching accomplish?

A strengthened awareness of your mindset and habits as they relate to your academic and personal life. This self-awareness builds confidence, improves self-management, and allows you to realize your goals so you can make the right, personalized plan of action for you to thrive! Coaching offers academic skill-building, tools to manage emotional well-being, and accountability to help you reach your goals.

+ Who benefits from academic coaching?

A student who wants to:

  • overcome procrastination
  • learn how to manage time
  • feel balanced in their social-emotional and academic lives
  • study effectively and efficiently
  • build academic and personal awareness
  • maximize their college/high school experience
  • challenge limiting beliefs about themselves
  • feel a sense of purpose (i.e. course selection, extracurricular activities, friendships)
  • reduce negative “self-talk”

+ How is academic coaching different from tutoring?

Coaching is more of a transformational process while tutoring is more transactional and is designed to help a student with subject-specific content. Coaching is more holistic and encompasses all aspects of student life.

+ What is a typical session like?

The guiding principle of coaching is to meet the student where they are, which means a session is best when organic. That said, here are some things that may be covered in a session:

  • check-in about upcoming exams and/or papers and help break them down into smaller tasks
  • making a plan for time management and study techniques
  • learn learning style + strength-based tools and assessments in order to personalize best ways to overcome challenges
  • coaching on concerns inhibiting academic performance, such as relationships, performance, procrastination, emotional management
  • a meeting is typically 50 minutes

+ Can coaching be done virtually?

Yes! I use Zoom.

+ How do I get started?

The best way to start the process is by setting up complimentary “discovery” session. This is a 30-minute phone call to learn more about your goals or the goals of your student and about the coaching process. Check out my coaching packages and schedule a call today.

Do you offer other types of coaching?

Yes! If you’re feeling confident with your academics and would like to focus on personal growth and development, Life Coaching might be right for you.
